Navratre special Chana! 
As the festive season begins, this is a popular dish served with puri and halwa to small girls on the 8th day of fast and marking the end of it!

This is a regular recipe, you can skip onions and spices accordingly for the fast. 


1. Take chana in a bowl and soak it for 8 hrs or overnight.
2. Boil it in a cooker by taking 1.5 cups of water.
3. Wait till 4 whistles of the cooker.
4. Switch off the flame.
5. Take ½ cup of chana and grind them(optional for better taste). Preparing the chana
1. Heat oil in the pan, put asafetida, cumin seeds and let it crackle.
2. Add curry leaves, green chilies, onions and mix it.
3. Sauté it till the onions becomes golden in color.
4.Add coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder and red chilli powder, mix it.
5. Add tomatoes, fry and sauté them for 3-4 mins.
6. Then add boiled chana, grinded chana, salt to taste and mix them.
7. Add lemon juice and garnish it with chopped coriander..

  • 250 gms(2 cup) Chana
  • 1 medium (chopped) Onion
  • 1 medium(tomato) Tomato
  • 1 hot Green chillis
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Asafetida
  • 1/4 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp (chopped) Coriander
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 cups Sooji (semolina)
  • 1.75 cups Sugar
  • 1.5 cup Ghee
  • 8 cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Sunflower seeds (Chironji)
  • 1 tbsp, scraped Coconut
  • 3-4 Almonds
