Stop imagining and go bake it!!  So, this is how we make the basic chocolate cake!


1. In a dry bowl take flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt and using a fork mix to evenly combine

2. In a separate bowl take sugar and eggs and whisk till it’s light and voluminous

3. Add cold coffee, oil, and buttermilk, vanilla extract, and mix

4. Now sift the dry ingredients into the sugar mix, fold till just a streak or two of flour are seen

5. Add chopped chocolate (reserve 1/4 cup for the top) and fold till evenly distributed in the batter

6. Now grease your baking pan and pour out the batter into it, put the remaining chocolate chunks on the top and bake @170c for 35-40 mins or till a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean

7. Let it cool for 10 mins then demould it on a cake stand

8. Cool completely and serve!

  • 1.5 cups All purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Castor Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Oil
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 1tsp Vinegar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Cold brewed coffee
  • 1 cup chopped Dark chocolate
